A Network of Joint-use and Collaborative Research In Japan and all over the world

This research project, led by the Research Organization of Information and Systems, is not only comprised of four research institutes and two affiliated research centers, but also conducted in collaboration with participating research institutions outside the Organization, as well as research communities  related to (?) each project, and related academic societies. Through flow-on effects, sharing of results, and collaborative research, the Research Commons aims to contribute to every field of research that utilizes data. In particular, the three active databases of the Data-Centric Science Platform have a strong scientific background for their constructions, data analysis, and provision of results, and each database has its own unique features.

For example, the international research community is eagerly anticipating the data analytics and data provision of the Earth and Environment Data database, using data gathered from the Antarctic Showa MST/IS Radar,  a  big observation equipment established by the International Council for Science (ICSU) at the request of a number of international organizations. The Life Science Data database is working on construction of  a platform for the integrated utilization of Japan’s life science and medical databases, which were developed separately,in order to take advantage of the evolution of the internet and dealing the latest  technology which can currently utilize r to offer an easy-to-use facility. One type of flow-on this effect can be seen in which the more than 50,000 people visit per month to the portal site of the MEXT Integrated Database Project. Finally, the Human and Social Data database is based on collaboration with 11 Japanese and eight overseas universities, along with Kyoto City, six prefectures in the Tohoku region, and a wide range of government agencies, including the Japan Tourism Agency and the Ministry of the Environment. This database provides a platform so as to enable to utilize the Cyber-Physical Information Space which combines reality with the virtual world.
